Boyle Elected Ranking Member of House Budget Committee for 118th Congress

Boyle becomes the youngest Member to lead his party on the powerful House Budget Committee in decades

WASHINGTON, DC – House Democrats elected Congressman Brendan F. Boyle (PA-02) as Ranking Member of the powerful House Budget Committee for the 118th Congress, set to begin in January. Boyle was elected unanimously by caucus members and will succeed Chair John Yarmuth (KY-03) who is retiring at the end of this Congress.

 

“I am grateful to my Democratic colleagues for entrusting me with leading the House Budget Committee,” said Congressman Boyle. “Budgets reflect our values, and I will place a high value on the well-being of American workers and middle-class families in my future efforts as Ranking Member. I will work with House Republicans on the Budget Committee when and where we can to put forth a budget document that is fair and equitable to all. I will not stop fighting for the values we share, and an economy that works for everyone."

The Budget Committee will retain its prominence in the new year as House Republicans push their extremist and punishing agenda to slash Social Security, Medicare, and other vital programs Americans rely on. Boyle will succeed Chair John Yarmuth, who has led Budget Democrats since 2017 and is retiring at the end of this Congress. Boyle has served on the House Budget Committee since 2019 and served as Vice-Chair for the 117th Congress. He currently serves on the prestigious Ways & Means Committee and as one of the Speaker’s Representatives to the NATO Parliamentary Association.
