Boyle Slams Republican Vote to Hand More Power to Elon Musk

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, House Republicans advanced a partisan continuing resolution that grants even more power to Elon Musk while he and DOGE now attack Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. Following the vote, Congressman Brendan F. Boyle, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, issued the following statement:

“Let’s be clear: Republicans control the House, the Senate, and the White House. If the government shuts down, it will be because they chose to shut it down.

Democrats are ready to work across the aisle to keep the government funded. But the Republican bill is anything but a ‘clean’ continuing resolution. Republicans just voted to double down on Trump’s reckless tariff tax hikes, drive up housing costs, and abandon veterans exposed to toxic substances.

And while Donald Trump and shadow president Elon Musk are wreaking havoc on our economy—imposing job-killing tariffs and illegally dismantling federal services—House Republicans just voted to give Musk and his DOGE crew even more power.

Let’s not forget: Republicans are also pushing the largest Medicaid cuts in history to finance yet another multi-trillion-dollar giveaway for billionaires.

House Democrats will never stop fighting for working families. We will not stand by while Republicans betray the middle class to appease their wealthy donors. The American people deserve better.”
