Boyle Statement on April Jobs Report
WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Pennsylvania Congressman Brendan F. Boyle, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, released the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that nonfarm payroll employment increased by 175,000 jobs in April:
“This time four years ago, the United States experienced the single worst one-month job loss on record — 20.7 million jobs wiped out in April of 2020,” said Ranking Member Boyle. “Meanwhile, under President Biden we’ve added over 15 million jobs from month after month of record job growth. The U.S. unemployment rate is at historic lows and has been under 4 percent for the longest stretch of time since the Vietnam War. Wage increases are outpacing inflation and with the investments made by President Biden and House Democrats, we are winning the future by outpacing and out-innovating our competitors.”
“The American people haven’t forgotten the world President Biden inherited from his predecessor. Donald Trump lost 2.7 million American jobs while attacking democracy at home and abandoning our allies abroad. Instead of growing the middle class, he passed a $2 trillion tax cut for the ultra-wealthy and billion-dollar corporations. When our nation needed a comprehensive pandemic response, Trump peddled COVID conspiracy theories. We’ve come a long way from those failures and while extreme MAGA Republicans want to turn back the clock, House Democrats are here to keep moving us forward.”
