Boyle Statement on August 2024 Jobs Report
WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Pennsylvania Congressman Brendan F. Boyle, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, released the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that nonfarm payroll employment increased by 142,000 jobs in August:
“Today’s jobs report once again shows that when we make historic investments in middle-class families, we get historic results,” said Ranking Member Boyle. “Under the Biden-Harris administration, our economy has now added nearly 15.9 million jobs. We’ve delivered record manufacturing construction activity, capped the price of insulin and prescription drugs for seniors, and lowered health insurance costs for millions. We’ve made significant progress on inflation, and now the Fed must secure this progress by lowering interest rates at this month’s FOMC meeting.”
“While President Biden and Vice President Harris continue fighting for working families, MAGA Republicans are doing everything in their power to take us backward. Trump’s Project 2025 would force middle-class families to pay higher prices and higher taxes, even as the most profitable corporations get a massive tax cut. Not to be outdone, Congressional Republicans are now threatening yet another Republican government shutdown. Their agenda is a threat to every working family in our country, and we’ll continue fighting to make sure these dangerous ideas never become a reality.”
