Boyle Statement on CBO Long-Term Budget Outlook

March 27, 2025

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Brendan F. Boyle (PA-02), Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, issued the following statement on the Congressional Budget Office’s (CBO) Long-Term Budget Outlook: 2025 to 2055, a report detailing budget and economic projections for the next 30 years:

“This CBO report paints a troubling picture: our national debt is set to surge, driven by the same reckless Republican policies that have failed working families for decades. Instead of changing course, they’re proposing $4.5 trillion in giveaways for the ultra-wealthy— partially paid for by the largest cuts to Medicaid in American history.

Economic growth is slowing, consumer expectations are sinking, and the full impact of Donald Trump’s agenda would make matters even worse. At the same time, Republicans—led by Elon Musk—are taking steps to dismantle Social Security and Medicare.

Democrats are fighting to protect these vital programs and invest in working families. As Ranking Member of the Budget Committee, I’ll continue leading that fight.”

Budget Committee Democrats recently released a debt ceiling explainer, which is available here. You can also download a PDF version here.
