Boyle Statement on December Jobs Report

Jan 6, 2023

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Pennsylvania Congressman Brendan F. Boyle, incoming Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, released the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that nonfarm payroll employment increased by 223,000 in December and the unemployment rate, at 3.5 percent, is back to pre-pandemic levels:

“Today’s jobs report brings the total number of jobs added under President Biden and a Democratic Congress to a whopping 10.7 million and shows that the labor market remains healthy and resilient — good news for American workers. With a historically productive 117th Congress that included the passage of two landmark budget reconciliation bills — the American Rescue Plan and the Inflation Reduction Act — Democrats have laid the groundwork for a record-breaking economic recovery from the pandemic and sustainable growth in the face of global inflation and economic headwinds.

“Right now, we are witnessing a Republican party beset with infighting, chaos, and dysfunction. Today’s jobs numbers underscore the very real contrast between Democrats’ record of success and Republicans failure to even fulfill the most basic responsibilities of governance.”
