Boyle Statement on December PCE Inflation Data

January 31, 2025

WASHINGTON, DCToday, Pennsylvania Congressman Brendan F. Boyle, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, released the following statement after the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) reported an annual personal consumption expenditures (PCE) price index of 2.6 percent for December 2024:

“While we’ve made real progress in the last year, we still have more work to do to bring relief to the middle class. And while Donald Trump and Republicans promised to lower prices ‘on day one,’ the reality is their plans tell a different story.

They want to impose reckless tariffs, or taxes, on American consumers, driving up prices even further. At the same time, they’re pushing a $4.6 trillion tax giveaway to billionaires that would explode the national debt.

This isn’t just bad economics—it’s a betrayal of the middle class. Republicans love to talk about fighting for working families, but their actions since returning to power make one thing clear: they have no real plan to lower costs or help most Americans. Instead, they’re prioritizing tax breaks for billionaires and pushing policies that would make life even harder for working people.”
