Boyle Statement on Donald Trump’s Lies About the Economy, Health Care, and His Big Ugly Law

December 2, 2025

WASHINGTON, DC Congressman Brendan F. Boyle (PA-02), Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, issued the following statement after President Trump again dismissed the nation’s cost-of-living crisis as a “con job by the Democrats,” misled the American people about his disastrous economic record, and lied about Republicans’ Big Ugly Law:

“It’s no surprise that a billionaire president who has never understood the struggles of working families now calls the cost-of-living crisis he made worse a ‘con job.’ The real con was his promise to ‘lower prices on day one.’ Instead, his reckless tariff taxes have pushed inflation higher and weakened the job market.

His so-called plan to ‘fix health care’ was revealed this summer when he signed the Big Ugly Law — the largest cut to health care in American history. His real plan strips coverage from 15 million Americans and forces millions more to pay even higher premiums.

He also claims he has brought ‘trillions of dollars’ into our economy. If that were true, why are families still struggling? Why are people in Pennsylvania — families like the ones I grew up in — finding it harder each month to make ends meet? The answer is simple: it’s yet another con. Donald Trump and his billionaire friends are the only ones benefiting from his policies. Everyone else is left to suffer.”
