Boyle Statement on Failure of Extreme Republican Continuing Resolution
WASHINGTON, DC — Today, just one day and 10 hours away from a government shutdown, the House of Representatives voted down an extreme Republican continuing resolution that included draconian cuts to critical government programs. Following the vote, Pennsylvania Congressman Brendan F. Boyle, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, released the following statement:
"A day away from yet another Republican shutdown, Speaker McCarthy and House Republicans continue to fail in performing even the most basic tasks of governing," said Ranking Member Brendan F. Boyle. "This extreme MAGA funding bill would have punished millions of families for House Republicans' failure to govern — removing teachers from the classroom, slashing food assistance for women and children, and gutting low-income home energy assistance."
"This imminent shutdown can be averted the moment Speaker McCarthy stops trying to cater to his most extreme members and instead honors the bipartisan budget agreement he made with President Biden. The House has wasted enough time pushing the far-right's cruel schemes — House Republicans must put the Senate's bipartisan spending agreement on the floor so we can keep the government open."
