Boyle Statement on February CPI Inflation Data

March 11, 2025

WASHINGTON, DCToday, Pennsylvania Congressman Brendan F. Boyle, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, released the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported an annualized CPI inflation rate for February of 2.8 percent:

“Fifty-one days into the Trump administration, and I’m still waiting to see a real plan to lower costs for American families. Instead of delivering on their promises, Donald Trump and his Republican allies are pursuing policies that do the exact opposite—driving up costs on everyday essentials while betraying the middle class they claim to champion.

Trump promised to lower prices 'on day one.' Instead, Republicans have done nothing to ease the burden of rising costs. Rather than tackling inflation, they are slashing veterans’ health care, doubling down on Trump’s reckless tariffs, and advancing the largest Medicaid cuts in American history. And while working families struggle, Republicans are trying to hand out a $4.5 trillion windfall to their billionaire donors—all while forcing middle-class Americans to foot the bill.

The message from Trump and his Republican allies in Congress couldn’t be clearer: they’re not fighting for working Americans. They are turning their backs on the middle class and putting the interests of the wealthiest few ahead of everyone else.”
