Boyle Statement on House Passage of Republican Health Care Scheme

December 17, 2025

WASHINGTON, DC Today, Congressman Brendan F. Boyle (PA-02), Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, issued the following statement following a vote on House Republicans’ so-called health care “plan”:

“A bipartisan majority of the House supports a straightforward extension of the health care tax credits so that millions of Americans can afford coverage. Instead of fixing the crisis they created by passing the largest health care cut in American history, Republican leadership chose to force a pointless vote on a bill that would actually strip coverage from even more people.

Speaker Johnson must bring our clean extension of these health care tax credits to the floor immediately. Anything less is a waste of time, and a betrayal of every American who is counting on us to save their health care.”

Background on Republicans’ Health Care Scheme:

  • In addition to the millions of Americans set to lose health care due to the Republican reconciliation bill passed over the summer and their refusal to extend the enhanced ACA tax credits, CBO’s analysis shows this new bill would leave an additional 100,000 Americans uninsured each year.
  • CBO also finds that the bill’s cost-sharing reductions provision would further reduce ACA tax credits to Americans by $131 billion, increasing out-of-pocket premium costs for millions of Americans enrolled in non-silver plans.
