Boyle Statement on January 2024 Jobs Report

Feb 2, 2024

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Pennsylvania Congressman Brendan F. Boyle, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, released the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that nonfarm payroll employment increased by 353,000 jobs in January:

“Today’s jobs report highlights a labor market that remains resilient even in the face of the Fed’s high interest rates,” said Ranking Member Boyle. “The Biden economy has delivered three straight years of job growth and kept unemployment below 4 percent for two years in a row. Inflation is in decline, the stock market is reaching record highs, and more Americans than ever are starting new businesses.”

“Thanks to Democratic investments, more than 400,000 jobs have been created per month under President Biden, compared to 179,000 a month under the first three years of the Trump administration. In total, the Biden economy has added 14.8 million jobs – the Trump economy lost 2.7 million. The numbers don’t lie, and while Democrats are fighting for working families, Republicans are fighting for a man who lost more American jobs than any president in modern history.”
