Boyle Statement on January 2025 PCE Inflation Data
WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Pennsylvania Congressman Brendan F. Boyle, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, released the following statement after the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) reported annual personal consumption expenditures (PCE) for January 2025. The BEA report showed a price index of 2.5 percent for January, and continued to show a rise in food prices.
"Today’s report makes one thing painfully clear: Donald Trump and congressional Republicans have no plan to lower costs for American families. Trump promised relief on ‘day one,’ yet grocery prices remain high, and middle-class families are still struggling to make ends meet. Instead of delivering real solutions, Republicans are doubling down on their betrayal of the middle class—pushing an extreme budget that slashes food assistance and strips away health care coverage, all to bankroll massive tax giveaways for billionaires.
It has been 38 days since Donald Trump was inaugurated, and in that time, Americans have seen nothing but Republican chaos, dysfunction, and broken promises. While families face rising prices at the checkout line, Republicans—led by their shadow president, Elon Musk—are busy threatening Social Security, Medicaid, and the very programs that help working families put food on the table and access the health care they need.
Let’s be clear: no one voted for this. The American people deserve a government that fights for them—not one that serves the ultra-wealthy at their expense.”
