Blockbuster jobs growth in January makes two years of consecutive jobs growth under President Biden

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Pennsylvania Congressman Brendan F. Boyle, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, released the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that nonfarm payroll employment increased by 517,000 in January and the unemployment rate dropped to 3.4 percent, a record low:

“Today’s jobs report shows blockbuster jobs growth in January as President Biden and Congressional Democrats’ relentless focus on economic policies that put American workers and families first continues to pay off. American workers and our economy have officially enjoyed two years of consecutive and substantial job growth under President Biden, with more than 12 million jobs created since President Biden took office. Our economy continues to grow at a stable and steady pace, inflation is moderating, and unemployment remains low — showing the underlying strength and resilience of our economy.

“It is fundamental that we build on this progress, not jeopardize it. That means paying our nation’s bills on time. A reckless self-inflicted default could eliminate millions of jobs, spike interest rates, and wipe out $15 trillion in household wealth. While Republicans continue to threaten the American people with default, Democrats will keep fighting to create jobs, help American workers, and protect our economy from the MAGA nihilists who want to burn it all down.”
