Boyle Statement on March Fed Interest Rate Decision
WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Pennsylvania Congressman Brendan F. Boyle, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, released the following statement after the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) announced it would be maintaining the current interest rate target range:
“Consumer sentiment was down another 11 percent this month — and it’s no secret why. Donald Trump is raising taxes on American families so he can start foolish trade wars with our allies. Trump hasn’t done a thing to lower costs for Americans in need — and now his disastrous economic plans could dramatically raise the cost of living. Middle-class families simply cannot afford to pay the thousands of dollars in new taxes that Trump is threatening.
It’s a familiar story: Republicans campaigned on helping the middle class, but once they’ve got the votes, they couldn’t care less about keeping their promises. While Americans wait for help with the cost of living, Trump and Congressional Republicans are busy trying to deliver massive giveaways to their billionaire donors — all funded by the largest Medicaid cuts in history. It doesn’t get much more despicable than gutting Medicaid so the ultra-rich can line their pockets. House Democrats will not rest in our fight against this Republican betrayal of the middle class.”
