Boyle Statement on May Inflation Data

Jun 13, 2023

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Pennsylvania Congressman Brendan F. Boyle, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, released the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported an annualized inflation rate for May of 4.0 percent:

“Today's report is good news for our economy and for American families as the annualized inflation rate dropped by almost an entire percentage point,” said Ranking Member Boyle. “As supply chains normalize and our economy transitions to steady and stable economic growth, inflation has continued to move in the right direction – declining for the eleventh month in a row. However, just because inflation has dropped more quickly in the United States than in Europe and nearly everywhere else, this does not make higher prices any less painful for American families.

“While extreme MAGA Republicans play political games instead of trying to solve real problems, Congressional Democrats and President Biden are laser-focused on lowering everyday costs for families, including by passing historic legislation to cap the cost of prescription drugs and lower health care and energy costs, and by stopping Republicans from making cruel cuts to vital programs working families rely on."
