Boyle Statement on Moody’s Downgrade of U.S. Credit Rating
WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congressman Brendan F. Boyle (PA-02), Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, released the following statement after Moody’s downgraded the U.S. credit rating and revised its outlook from stable to negative:
“This downgrade is a direct warning: our fiscal outlook is deteriorating, and House Republicans are determined to make it worse. On top of Trump’s reckless tariffs and years of Republican debt ceiling brinkmanship, now they want to add trillions to the deficit — all to hand out even more tax breaks to billionaires and the biggest corporations. It’s the same failed playbook that’s exploded deficits for decades.
We need serious, responsible budgeting — not another reckless scheme that robs working families to reward the ultra-wealthy. House Democrats are ready to govern. The question is whether Republicans are ready to wake up to the damage they’re causing.”
