Boyle Statement on Trump DOJ Targeting Fed Chair Jerome Powell

WASHINGTON, DC — Congressman Brendan F. Boyle (PA-02), Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, issued the following statement after reports that the Trump Department of Justice has served the Federal Reserve with subpoenas and threatened Chair Jerome Powell with criminal indictment:

“Let’s be clear about what this is: the President is throwing a tantrum because the Federal Reserve and Jerome Powell won’t do his bidding.

By weaponizing the Department of Justice to intimidate a nonpartisan Fed Chair, Trump is undermining the independence of the central bank, which will weaken our economy and destabilize markets.

American families cannot afford Donald Trump’s continued economic sabotage.”
