Boyle Statement on Trump’s Mass Firings

February 14, 2025

WASHINGTON, DCPennsylvania Congressman Brendan F. Boyle, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, released the following statement following reports of mass firings across the government by the Trump administration:

“Trump’s decision to lay off thousands of nonpartisan civil servants across the country is a slap in the face to every American. From air traffic control to Social Security to food safety inspections, American families are counting on our government to deliver critical services. But once again, middle-class Americans are paying the price for Trump’s obsession with lining the pockets of the ultra-rich.

Gutting the federal workforce will make it easier for Trump’s billionaire donors to abuse their workers with impunity, violate environmental safeguards, and profit from contracts to privatize the services Trump just gutted. While Elon Musk gets even richer, these firings will make every American less safe and shatter the lives of thousands of hardworking people.

The people Trump is attempting to fire chose to serve their country and their fellow citizens. I’m disgusted by the way Trump and his billionaire cabinet are treating these dedicated civil servants, and I will do everything in my power to fight back against this shameful decision.”

Information on the number of federal employees by state and congressional district is available here. Fewer than one in five federal employees are located in the Washington, DC region.
