Boyle: Trump’s Tariffs Are Reckless, Pointless, and Paid for by the Middle Class

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Brendan F. Boyle (PA-02), Ranking Member of the Budget Committee and a Member of the Ways and Means Committee, released the following statement after Donald Trump announced plans for sweeping new tariffs:

“Donald Trump’s reckless actions today will do nothing to lower costs for middle-class Americans. In fact, they’ll do the opposite. These tariffs will send the prices of everyday goods skyrocketing for working families across the country.

Meanwhile, Trump and the Republicans continue to push massive giveaways for their billionaire donors. It’s the same old playbook: working families pay more so the ultra-wealthy can take more.

Tariffs, when used strategically, can empower workers and protect American jobs. But this chaotic, sloppy approach is economically dangerous. It alienates our allies and sticks the middle class with the bill.

America needs smart, targeted trade policy—not reckless schemes that hurt workers and reward the rich.”
