Chairman Yarmuth Statement on Signing of the Families First Coronavirus Response Act into Law

Mar 19, 2020

Washington, D.C.— Kentucky Congressman John Yarmuth, Chairman of the House Budget Committee, released the following statement today after the President signed H.R. 6201, the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, into law:

“House Democrats have worked across the aisle and with the White House to ensure that all our legislative responses put families – and their needs – first. The Families First Coronavirus Response Act prioritizes effective, evidence-based measures to protect the health, economic security, and well-being of the American people.

“This new law will expand access to free testing regardless of insurance coverage status, establish necessary paid leave so Americans don’t have to choose between a paycheck or being safe, and strengthen critical programs – like SNAP, Unemployment Insurance, and Medicaid – that families rely on to make ends meet.

“We have taken an important step forward, but we are far from done. Congress needs to continue to lead our nation forward to protect public health, provide relief for the American people, and stabilize the economy.”
