Chairs Yarmuth and DeLauro on Adoption of H. Res. 1151

Jun 8, 2022

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Kentucky Representative John Yarmuth, Chair of the House Budget Committee, and Connecticut Representative Rosa DeLauro, Chair of the House Appropriations Committee, issued statements following House adoption of H. Res. 1151 – Providing for budget allocations, and for other purposes. The House Budget Committee Majority Staff published a one-pager outlining H. Res. 1151.

“Setting a discretionary topline is a core responsibility of the Budget Committee in the appropriations process, and H. Res. 1151 accomplishes this by providing the necessary framework for the Appropriations Committee to get started on its work,” said Chairman Yarmuth. This resolution supports President Biden’s FY23 budget request with a topline discretionary funding level of $1.6 trillion — a 9 percent increase from FY22 enacted levels. This procedural measure paves the way for a timely annual appropriations process without prejudging outcomes for specific program areas. I look forward to working with my colleagues to deliver the investments necessary to meet the needs of the American people, lower costs for families, and keep our economy strong.”

“Earlier this year, we passed bipartisan, bicameral federal funding bills that include transformative investments to help lower costs for hardworking people and address some of the challenges we face at home and abroad, but the American economy is still off-balance—favoring the wealthy and big corporations and leaving working families behind,” said Chair DeLauro. “With this step, the House Appropriations Committee will move forward with markups next week and pass appropriations bills in July that invest in the American people, help create good-paying jobs, grow opportunity, and provide a lifeline to the middle class.”
