Ranking Member Boyle Statement on Vote to Avert Government Shutdown

Feb 29, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Pennsylvania Congressman Brendan F. Boyle, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, released the following statement after voting to pass a fourth continuing resolution under the Republican-controlled House:

“Just a day away from yet another GOP government shutdown, House Democrats have once again provided the votes to keep the government open and protect American families from the chaos and confusion of House Republicans. Under Democratic leadership, the House of Representatives delivered the American Rescue Plan, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the CHIPS and Science Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act. Under Republican leadership, barely keeping the government open is what passes for an accomplishment.”

“After more than a year of chaos and confusion on the part of House Republicans, Speaker Johnson has realized what every Democrat has known for months: Republicans must work in a bipartisan fashion to fund the government. Today, I joined House Democrats to responsibly vote to protect families and keep the government open until we pass the negotiated FY2024 funding bills. At the same time, I will continue fighting to advance the critical national security priorities that Speaker Johnson is delaying.”
