Yarmuth Statement on Confirmation of Mick Mulvaney as OMB Director

Feb 16, 2017

Washington, D.C. — Kentucky Congressman John Yarmuth, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, issued the following statement after the U.S. Senate voted to confirm Mick Mulvaney as OMB Director:

“The Office of Management and Budget plays a vital role in addressing the budget opportunities and challenges facing our nation. I encourage Director Mulvaney to partner with Congress on a commonsense, bipartisan path that makes smart investments to grow our economy and provides a better future for families struggling to get ahead.  We are currently awaiting the first budget proposal from the Trump Administration, and the American people should be deeply concerned by the President’s plan to give massive tax cuts to the wealthy, which will explode the deficit and dramatically weaken our nation’s financial status. Director Mulvaney will also be tasked with upholding President Trump’s promise to protect Social Security and Medicare.  These programs are the only source of health and economic security for millions of Americans, so I hope to work with the new Director to see that this pledge by the President is actually honored.”
