Yarmuth Statement on GOP Budget

FY17 Republican Budget – January 2017

Washington, DC – Today, Kentucky Congressman John Yarmuth, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, issued the following statement on the 2017 budget resolution passed by the House:

“I am deeply disappointed that Republicans have rammed through their so-called budget, which was drafted for the sole purpose of repealing the Affordable Care Act and defunding Planned Parenthood by a simple majority in the Senate.  The ACA is making a tremendous difference in my home state and in communities across the country. That’s why there is a bipartisan chorus criticizing efforts to take away health care from millions of Americans.  House Republicans have yet to propose a viable alternative or introduce any plan that has the support of the majority of their members.

Repeal isn’t about what’s best for the American people.  It’s solely about politics and the financial interests of the well-off and the well-connected. Today, Republicans squandered the opportunity to start this new Congress working together in a bipartisan way to address the concerns and priorities of the people we represent.  The American people deserve and expect more.”
