Yarmuth Statement on GOP Tax Reform Principles
Washington, D.C.— Kentucky Congressman John Yarmuth, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, issued the following response to the joint statement on tax reform from Republican leaders:
“The embarrassing lack of detail in the Republican tax plan cannot hide their intentions. They are hell-bent on providing massive tax cuts for millionaires and wealthy corporations no matter the cost to the American people. These trillions of dollars in tax cuts will be paid for by sacrificing health care, education, job-creation, and other key investments. Tax cuts for the well-off and well-connected at the expense of everyone else are not the priorities of the American people, and they should not be the priorities of this Congress.
“If the day arrives when Republicans come to the table and engage Democrats with responsible tax reform ideas, we will be ready to sit down and work with them. Unfortunately, today was not that day.”
