Yarmuth Statement on House GOP’s 2018 Budget

Jul 18, 2017

Washington, D.C.— Today Kentucky Congressman John Yarmuth, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, issued the following statement on the House GOP’s FY 2018 budget resolution:

“Americans deserve a budget that prioritizes their families, their communities, and their security. Unfortunately, the House Republican budget fails them at every turn. It embraces the worst extremes of the Trump Budget, sacrificing nearly every investment that helps American families get ahead, in order to give huge tax breaks to millionaires and corporations.  It puts education, job training, transportation, medical research, and veterans’ healthcare at risk – all investments that the American people overwhelmingly support. The budget is even crueler than Trumpcare--which would strip more than 20 million Americans of health coverage. It makes even deeper cuts to Medicaid and ends the guarantee of Medicare, which seniors work a lifetime to earn. And by relying on the same budget games that exploded our deficits in the past, we stand to lose far more. This is a budget that sets our country and its citizens up for failure. It is a total abdication of the responsibility we have to the people we serve and it should be rejected.”
