Yarmuth Statement on President Trump’s Cancellation of Critical ACA Payments

Oct 13, 2017

Washington, D.C. – Kentucky Congressman John Yarmuth, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, issued the following statement on President Trump’s decision to terminate the funding for the Affordable Care Act’s cost-sharing-reduction payments,  which the Congressional Budget Office found would increase premiums by 20% and add nearly $200 billion to the deficit:

“President Trump has just driven a knife into the heart of the ACA individual insurance market. As a result of his decision, American families across the country will see their health care costs soar next year. Some insurance companies will no doubt leave the ACA markets completely, terminating health coverage for the families they serve.  This is a decision that will increase costs, cut access to care, and cost taxpayers nearly $200 billion over ten years. The millions of Americans who now get their health care coverage through the ACA individual market need to be prepared. Trumpcare is being implemented and will have devastating consequences.”
