The Reckless Republican Budget 2.0

June 5, 2026

In the 500 days since Republicans took control of Congress and the Presidency, they have shown again and again that their priorities are all wrong. They value billionaires over working families. They would rather protect their wealthy buddies from facing the consequences of abuse, or their loyal miscreants from the consequences of sedition, but won’t protect Americans from the rising costs generated by Republican policies.

Reconciliation 2.0 Provides Slush Funds for Trump’s Priorities

  • Increases the deficit by $70 billion to provide $38.5 billion to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), $26.0 billion to Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and $5.0 billion to the Department of Homeland Security.
  • Rejects common-sense reforms, accountability, and oversight for two agencies that have murdered Americancitizens, terrorized communities, and lied about it.
  • Fails to block Trump’s weaponization slush fund for his January 6 insurrectionists.
  • Allows Trump to keep his negotiated agreement with the Department of Justice to exclude himself from audit and wipe out his $100 million in taxes owed and penalties.

Reconciliation 1.0 Was a Disaster

  • It increased the deficit by $4.7 trillion
  • It continued tax breaks for the wealthy and well-connected while cutting health care and nutrition assistance. It made life harder for students and immigrants.
  • The bill included:
    • $140 billion for ICE and CBP with no strings attached; and
    • More than $1 trillion in cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act that leave more than 15 million people uninsured.

Trump's Cost of Living Crisis

Cost of Living Crisis Intensifies Under Republicans

  • Inflation, tariffs, war, and uncertainty have ballooned costs at the grocery store and the gas pump. This budget does nothing to soften the Trump economy’s blow to families’ wallets.

Republicans Are Not Stopping Here

  • Reconciliation 2.0 is a narrowly targeted measure, but Republicans have more bad policies on their agenda.
    • They will continue to pursue taxpayer funding for Trump vanity projects like the White House ballroom and slush fund payouts for their loyal zealots;
    • They will fund illogical and unnecessary conflicts like the war in Iran; and
    • Congressional Republicans will continue to cede power to the executive branch and turn a blind eye to Trump’s misdeeds and illegal actions.
