Boyle Statement on CBO Estimate of House Republicans’ Deficit-Busting Partisan Funding Bill

Nov 1, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Brendan F. Boyle, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, released the following statement after the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released an estimate showing Republicans' so-called IRS “offsets” in their partisan Israel supplemental would increase the deficit:

“Only House Republicans could claim that making it easier for the rich to cheat on their taxes somehow lowers the deficit,” said Ranking Member Boyle. “As this CBO score shows, hamstringing the IRS's ability to take on wealthy tax cheats would result in nearly $27 billion in lost revenue, significantly increasing the deficit. At a time of rising tensions around the world, House Republicans have sadly chosen to play politics with critical funding for a key U.S. ally.”

“Democrats stand ready to protect our national security and support our allies by advancing President Biden's emergency funding requests. It's time for House Republicans to treat this situation with the seriousness it demands, not as just another bargaining chip they can leverage to push even more deficit-busting tax giveaways for the wealthy and well-connected.”
