Boyle Statement on January 2026 CPI Inflation Data
WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Pennsylvania Congressman Brendan F. Boyle, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, released the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that the annualized Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation rate for January 2026 was 2.4 percent:
“Donald Trump promised he would end inflation on ‘Day One.’ Today is Day 389, and prices are higher than ever.
Instead of keeping his promise, Trump has increased the costs Americans pay through his massive tariff taxes — the highest tariffs since the Great Depression. Ordinary Americans simply can’t afford Trump’s reckless economic policies.”
This week, Boyle helped champion a resolution to terminate Trump’s tariffs on Canada. For more information on the Trump-Republican cost-of-living crisis in congressional districts across the United States, visit the Committee’s website at democrats-budget.house.gov/costofliving.
