Boyle Statement on OMB’s Reversal of Reckless Federal Grant Freeze

January 29, 2025
WASHINGTON, DCCongressman Brendan F. Boyle (PA-02), Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, issued the following statement after the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) rescinded its reckless attempt to freeze federal grants:

"This order should have never happened in the first place. Not only does OMB lack the authority to do this, but the chaos caused by this order disrupted important programs that millions of people rely on, including Medicaid.

But make no mistake—this was no accident. OMB’s attempt to freeze federal grants is straight out of Project 2025, the far-right blueprint crafted by Russell Vought. This dangerous playbook openly calls for the President to ignore laws that safeguard Congress’s constitutional power of the purse. Now, Senate Republicans are rushing to confirm Vought as OMB Director, despite his long record of promoting radical, unconstitutional theories that would hand the executive branch unchecked control over taxpayer dollars.

This won’t be the last time they try to override the will of the American people. Even now, the White House is still withholding funding that was approved on a bipartisan basis—including critical infrastructure investments.  We must remain vigilant—because Trump and his far-right allies will continue to try and put programs that millions of middle-class families rely on at risk."
