Budget Committee Democrats Launch Webpage, Interactive Map Showing How a Republican Shutdown Would Hurt Families Across America

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Brendan F. Boyle, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, and Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro, Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Committee, announced a new webpage highlighting the consequences of a Republican government shutdown for families in all 50 states.

“We are now just three days away from a Republican government shutdown that would threaten the safety of our communities, force our troops to work without pay, and put children and families at risk of going hungry,” said Ranking Member Boyle. “It's inexcusable that House Republicans would shut down the government over their demands to slash funding for everything from food assistance for families to education for our children. Speaker McCarthy must put the American people first, honor his own bipartisan budget agreement, and ensure that our communities don't suffer the consequences of a Republican shutdown.”

“Thanks to House Republicans, we are on the cusp of a shutdown that will damage our economy, cut kids and families off from food assistance, interrupt critical services like food inspections and disaster preparedness, hurt small businesses, and cause troops and law enforcement to work without pay,” said Ranking Member DeLauro. “But we have been on this path for months. The moment House Republican Leadership reneged on the agreement the President and Speaker negotiated to avert a catastrophic default, they put the country on a path to a costly shutdown. House Republicans want to shut down the government because House Democrats, Senate Republicans and Democrats, and President Biden oppose their extreme cuts that will make working families pay even more for the things they need at a time when the cost of living is already too high. Working families cannot afford this extreme Republican shutdown.”
