House Budget Committee Clears Way for American Rescue Plan

Washington, D.C.— Tonight, the House Budget Committee completed its virtual markup of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, A bill to provide for reconciliation pursuant to title II of S. Con. Res. 5. Under the leadership of Budget Chairman John Yarmuth (KY-03), the committee reported the legislation to the House of Representatives with a favorable recommendation.

“As we close this markup, I would like to point out that we have now passed more than 100 total hours of House debate on this COVID relief package,” said Chairman Yarmuth. “We’ve heard some good arguments, but we have also been subjected to a lot of misinformation and partisan spin. What’s true is this: The virus has already killed more than 500,000 Americans. Workers, families, small businesses, and communities across the country are counting on the relief in President Biden’s American Rescue Plan to survive these crises, and they can’t afford to wait.

“Today’s committee work puts us much closer to getting the American people the help they desperately need. Next, we head to the Rules Committee and then the House floor later this week, before sending this rescue package to the Senate. The American people are counting on us – their lives and livelihoods depend on us – and this Congress and the Biden-Harris White House will not let them down.”
