Yarmuth Elected Ranking Member of House Budget Committee

Dec 6, 2016

Washington, DC – House Democrats have unanimously elected Congressman John Yarmuth (KY-03) as Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee for the 115th Congress. He will succeed Congressman Chris Van Hollen, who has served as Ranking Member for six years and will be sworn in as the next U.S. Senator from Maryland in January.

“It has been an honor to serve on this Committee under Ranking Member Van Hollen for the past six years, and I thank him for his dedication and leadership. I’m looking forward to continuing the work he started to take on the irresponsible budget policies of House Republican Leadership. I believe budgets are statements of values, and through the work of the Budget Committee we will be able to show the American people the sharp contrasts between our values and those of our Republican colleagues,” said Congressman Yarmuth.

“The House Budget Committee is central to the conversation about America’s priorities – from growing our economy, to investing in schools and job training programs, to keeping our promises to our seniors, our veterans, and the most vulnerable in our country,” said Congressman Van Hollen. “I’ve been proud to serve as the Ranking Member since 2011, and I’m confident that Congressman Yarmuth will lead with distinction on these important issues. As an incoming member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I look forward to working with him to make critical investments in our nation’s future.”
