Yarmuth Statement on the GOP Budget

Oct 20, 2017

Washington, D.C. – Kentucky Congressman John Yarmuth, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, issued the following statement after Senate Republicans passed their FY18 budget resolution last night without any Democratic votes.

“Congressional Republicans confirmed last night they have no interest in producing a budget that meets the needs and challenges of American families. Their only goal is to fast-track massive tax cuts to millionaires and powerful corporations, which will increase the debt and deficits by more than $1 trillion.  Like its House counterpart, the Senate plan contains extreme cuts to important national priorities, including Medicare and Medicaid, and threatens programs that provide meals to hungry children and health benefits to our nation’s veterans.  This is not responsible governing or even rational budgeting. It is a shameful plan to give more to the wealthy, no matter the cost to our economy or the American people.

“Democrats will continue to fight every step of the way to stop these budgets and the enormous damage they will cause.”
